Temperature monitoring for rotational moulding

Every cycle in view.

A fixed camera in the cooling chamber of your rotational moulding machine watches the mould, recognises the process state and tells the machine through one simple contact when the part is cool enough.

Get in touch

Cooling decides the part.

When the mould leaves the oven, the cooling phase determines shrinkage, warpage and when the part can be demoulded. Today that is judged by timer and experience. rotemp measures the actual temperature instead.

The concept

Mounted in minutes

The camera is fixed in the cooling chamber, for example with a magnetic base holder. No changes to the machine, the arm or the mould.

Recognises the process

rotemp sees for itself what is happening in the station: whether a mould change is under way, the mould is cooling or the station is waiting.

One signal to the machine

When the mould has cooled below the set threshold temperature, rotemp closes a contact: one simple signal for the machine, without deep integration into the control system.

Process states

rotemp follows the cooling process purely optically. Transport and cooling alternate; within cooling, rotemp distinguishes three steps.

Transport

Station change: the mould moves between stations.

Cooling

The mould is in the cooling station.

  1. Rotating

    The mould rotates.

  2. Settling

Rotation ends, the mould comes to rest.

  3. At Rest

    The mould is stationary.

Inactive

In both phases: nothing is happening.

Transport → Cooling → Transport → Cooling → …

How it works

01

Camera in the cooling chamber

The camera unit is placed at a fixed position in the cooling chamber and aligned to the mould. A magnetic base holder is enough.

02

Optical process detection

rotemp recognises the current process state and measures the mould temperature during cooling.

03

Threshold temperature reached

As soon as the mould falls below the set threshold temperature, rotemp closes a contact to the machine.

04

HMI & OPC UA

Everything runs on the rotemp unit: the HMI shows the operator the current data with more than 12 hours of history, and the OPC UA server provides live data and completed cycles.

Data for your production

rotemp sees every cycle and turns it into figures for your production. Everything runs on the rotemp unit itself.

Cycle statistics

Cycle times and the individual times of each process step, recorded for every cycle.

OPC UA on board

The built-in OPC UA server provides live data and every completed cycle, ready for your MES, SCADA or analytics.

HMI for the operator

On site, the HMI shows the operator the current data, with a history of more than 12 hours.

Your data stays on site

rotemp works completely without an internet connection: no cloud, no account, no external servers. Statistics are available via OPC UA in your plant network; without any network, the HMI and the contact keep working. Remote maintenance only at your request and through access you grant.

What you gain

Right demoulding time

Demould when the part is ready. Not too early, not too late.

Shorter cycles

Measured cooling instead of safety margins on the timer.

Simple retrofit

One simple contact instead of a control-system project, also on existing machines.

Transparent production

Cycle and step times for every cycle, live via OPC UA in your MES.

Results in practice

A fixed timer has to cover the worst case. rotemp follows the actual temperature. That pays off in every cycle.

1–3 min
shorter cooling per cycle in day-to-day operation
up to 30 %
less cooling time on days with changing weather, up to 10 minutes
consistent
demoulding temperature throughout the day

Frequently asked questions

Which machine types is rotemp designed for?

rotemp is designed for and in use on carousel and shuttle machines. The suitability of other machine concepts is assessed in an initial consultation based on your specific installation.

How is the temperature measured?

rotemp measures the mould surface temperature without contact using a camera. In continuous operation, mould surfaces are coated with plastic after a short time, resulting in largely uniform emissivity. This enables reproducible measurement from cycle to cycle and therefore a consistent demoulding point.

How is the threshold temperature defined?

The threshold temperature is configured per mould on the HMI, so that different moulds and parts can each be run with suitable thresholds.

How does the machine behave if rotemp fails?

rotemp does not intervene in the machine control; it provides an additional release signal. In the event of a failure, the machine continues to operate with its existing control and timing.

Is an internet connection required?

No. rotemp operates fully autonomously; all functions are available without an internet connection. Remote maintenance is provided only at your request and through access you authorise.

What maintenance is required?

Maintenance requirements are low. The camera is mounted in the cooling air stream and is therefore continuously swept by the airflow; contamination of the lens practically does not occur in operation.
